"Making Things Better” in the Work Place -- Creating A Culture for Continuous Improvement

Five Monthly Half Day Seminars
August 24th – December 14th, 2010 – 8:30 to 12:00 pm

If you answer yes to any of these questions, Skillful Means methods can provide a structure for the workplace to become a training ground to improve your life, the lives of others and the performance of the overall company, creating a truly first class organization.

This 5 month program will offer owners and managers in non-competing companies, an opportunity to refine their own inner resources and qualities, increasing strength and confidence to support the improved performance of the organization overall.

We will meet monthly to explore topics that support both individual and organizational well-being. The structure will provide for peer to peer learning in a supportive environment. Specific suggested exercises will be provided between sessions to support individuals implementing Skillful Means in their work that will result in an improved project or process, helping to dissolve obstacles and find new opportunities for positive results.

PROGRAM OUTCOME: Use Skillful Means methods to identify components for Making Things Better (MTB) within yourself and your organization. Apply the MTB structure to a project or process you wish to improve.

Topics:

  1. Transforming Stress Into Well-Being:
    1. Tension vs. Stress
    2. Working with difficulties and preventing problems.
    3. Revitalizing While Working - "Being In"
  2. Waking Up to Time
    1. Understand the nature and value of time.
    2. Become aware of the structure of time and the mental attitudes required to succeed in each part of the structure.
    3. Apply the structure of time to current projects/processes as you establish standards and targets.
  3. Positive Communication
    1. Honest Communication at work
    2. Apply effective communication structures to a current project to improve performance and results.
    3. Tie communication to time taking performance to the next level.
  4. Effective Cooperation
    1. Components of a successful Team
    2. What is full cooperation & its underlying structure?
    3. Overcoming obstacles to improve cooperation.
  5. Making Things Better
    1. Pursuing what is beneficial for the whole organization
    2. Patterns of Success and Habits of Failure
    3. Sorting through confusion and acting on what has value.

Learning Activities include: Presentation of theory, dialogue, reading and individual participant exercises.

Program Participants and Cost: This seminar is suitable to owners, managers, team members & others responsible for communication in their companies. The cost is $1,008 per participant which includes 3 books to be used in the seminars. Four 1 hour coaching sessions in between the monthly sessions are included to help each participant implement a project or improve a specific process in their work. Participation is limited to 12 individuals from non-competing organizations on a first come basis.

Location & dates of seminars: Kings Daughters Inn 204 N. Buchanan Blvd – Durham. Dates are August 24, September 21, October 19, November 16, and December 14. Time: 8:30 am to 12:00 pm.

Seminar Leader: Teri Beckman, M.R.P. has studied Skillful Means methods for over 15 years using it in her professional life to achieve success. She has worked in the fields of real estate, housing and community development for 20 years in various leadership positions and has an active real estate & Skillful Means consulting practice. In the last 5 years she has assisted a variety of clients to implement and sustain positive change using Skillful Means methods.
